In this magnificent pose, Parshva Sarvangasana (Side Shoulderstand), the shoulders and arms remain rooted to the earth while the legs extend toward the horizon, reaching out to touch infinity. This suggests the true purpose of yoga: to be grounded while simultaneously stretching into the vastness of the unexplored Self. To do yoga is to be fully rooted in the present while at the same time embracing the possibilities of the future–a state in which we are both being and becoming.
{did this pose tonight and fell in love. also learned from my yoga sub-instructor that the true purpose of yoga is to live accurately. for when we do not live accurately, we often end up with regrets, which is any yogi’s worst nightmare. it is the opposite of who we are as a person, as a yogi. for, we go to yoga, to balance ourselves and loosen our tension - thus, we are living accurately. reflect on this notion if you practice yoga. it’s very true, or dare i say ~ accurate. about being yourself. doing for yourself. and staying true. being. this remark had my googling, researching, exploring my mind… here are some findings}:
Yoga defines itself as a science—that is, as a practical, methodical, and systematic discipline or set of techniques that have the lofty goal of helping human beings to become aware of their deepest nature. The goal of seeking to experience this deepest potential is not part of a religious process, but an experiential science of self-study. Religions seek to define what we should believe, while a practical science such as meditation is based on the concrete experience of those teachers and yogis who have previously used these techniques to experience the deepest Self. Yoga does not contradict or interfere with any religion, and may be practiced by everyone, whether they regard themselves as agnostics or members of a particular faith.

Yoga is an ancient science, which has always been part of the effort to discover and harmonize strong and positive qualities in the human personality. Yoga is a way of thinking, a philosophy and a method of understanding, evaluating and accepting life. It is also a system of practices, through which we can unite qualities of the body, intellect and emotions, so that we can start living our lives with greater awareness. Yoga also gives us the opportunity to experience different states of vitality and relaxation and in a most natural way to develop and awaken our inner potential.
